![]() ![]() (Frank Jeckell is another original member of the Fruitgum Company.) Since then, I have researched it a little bit. Songfacts: How did the Fruitgum Company get its name?įloyd: The famous story is that Frank was up in the attic, and he came across a wrapper from 1910 that was a wrapper for gum. So it wound up on our first Fruitgum Company album. And Jeff Katz and Jerry Kasenetz who were our producers, when they heard a lot of the songs, they liked them, they thought they would fit. I just kind of wrote this song playing with those lyrics. So I really didn't think about whether the song was light or bubblegummy. I point this out to my kids, who are now 25 and 23 and 20, that there was a pretty diverse terrain of music back then, from about '64 to '69. It was: "You think you're in a bubblegum world playing in sandboxes, too, I'd just like to tell you, girl, you're too old to think it's true." I was playing on the words a little bit, and there was a pretty wide range, a pretty big spectrum of music in the '60s. We were fans of Hendrix and The Beatles and The Stones, and Cream, and Yardbirds to The Animals. Before the band started, even, we were all fans of heavier music. Songfacts: What's the story behind that song?įloyd: I wrote a lot of different stuff back then. Songfacts: That was your composition, correct? Songfacts: Who do you think coined the phrase "Bubblegum"?įloyd: I had a song on the first album, it was called " Bubble Gum World." And we've never been able to verify this, but we heard that somewhere in one of the major magazines somebody coined the phrase "Bubblegum Music," directly related to that song, "Bubble Gum World." There's a segment, I think, of kids that really are kind of isolated from all that stuff. Now you have rap and you have kids listening at 10 and 12 years old, there's a lot of heavy content in it. It was more for a naive-er younger group. It was about love, it didn't include a lot of graphic description, and it was kind of up-music, it was fun music. Songfacts: Besides Bobby Vee, are there any other examples of artists that you would have considered Bubblegum before it was called Bubblegum?įloyd: A lot of the girl singers, like Chiffons come to mind, " He's So Fine." Linda Scott, "I Told Every Little Star." There was an awful lot of light music without social commentary. But I can't say any one person, really, was at the forefront of it. You had the Bobby Vees, and people like that doing music that people enjoyed, and it seemed to somehow at one point get a bad name. I think that in the early '60s a lot of the artists were Bubblegum before it was called Bubblegum. I think anything that was lighthearted, that wasn't of a social or very sexual nature in music, it was always kind of bubblegummy. Songfacts: Who do you think started Bubblegum music?įloyd: I think there's always been Bubblegum music. ![]() And our songs were covered - like "Indian Giver" was covered by the Ramones - which showed there was some kind of effect on the next generation. We dug in to learn more about the band and the history of Bubblegum: Did they play on their records? Was their image controlled by the record company? What does "Bubblegum" mean? Carl Wiser (Songfacts): You were kind of on the forefront of this whole Bubblegum music explosion, is that correct?įloyd Marcus: In a very short time we had about six releases. ![]() ![]() ![]() Streamlabs Chatbot can join your discord server to let your viewers know when you are going live by automatically announce when your stream goes live. How To Setup A Followage Command on Twitch In this tutorial, we show you how to add a followage command on Twitch. If for PS4, I would change them to console=ps and gamertag=woahh_jess. If woahh_jess’ account was in Europe, then I would change the gamertag portion to gamertag=woahh_jess-1234-eu. So if I wanted to only allow viewers to check the PC stats for woahh_jess, I would make sure that those parts were changed to console=pc and gamertag=woahh_jess-1234. So in the above response example, the parts that say console=XX and gamertag=USERNAME-XXXX will need to be changed to whatever Overwatch player you want the command to check by default for and what platform they are playing on. The Defiant can be heavily customised to make surviving these encounters more likely, with faster sails, a stronger hull, and more powerful cannons among the upgrades you can buy. Your crew can get injured during ship combat, and losing someone important like a helmsman or surgeon to cannon fire can limit your effectiveness in battle. An illustration showing the enemy ship, its distance, and its current level of damage is an at-a-glance way to see how the battle is going. Your cannons are only effective at specific ranges, which makes positioning vitally important. You can use a turn to reposition your ship, speed up to get closer to the enemy, slow down to create some distance, or fire your weapons. A circle shows you which way your ship is facing relative to the enemy, and you command your crew by selecting actions from a menu. It’s turn-based and takes place on a separate screen with a dedicated interface. The problem is that the actual act of sailing isn’t very compelling. This adds a nice layer of interaction and roleplaying to journeying between locations, which is normally quite uneventful in these games bar a few bandit ambushes. There are other issues to deal with, including injuries, pirates, and drama such as fights and arguments breaking out among the crew. And you’ll know when your history, whether it was created or imported from an old save, affects something in the new game by a symbol that appears next to certain lines of dialogue. There’s even one history that supposes you got every companion killed and the worst outcome of every quest. These let you quickly decide whether your character was benevolent, tyrannical, or something inbetween. The sheer number of choices and decisions you can make is daunting, however, which is where Obsidian’s selection of pre-made histories might come in handy. Deadfire not only neatly and succinctly summarises the events of the original game in the intro, but gives you the chance to create a history for your character, essentially simulating an imported save. If you didn’t play the first Pillars of Eternity, that’s totally fine. And so you give chase aboard your ship, the Defiant, which dramatically sets the wheels of the plot in motion. You survive, of course, thanks to the intervention of a sinister benefactor, and learn that the giant has been spotted stomping across the Deadfire Archipelago. But then a giant crystal colossus buried under the castle is possessed by the god Eothas, bursts out of the ground, destroys your home, and leaves you for dead. Every detail in this game is perfectly crafted, there are so many tiny things you can pick up on, and the backgrounds and set design are drop-dead gorgeous. The game adopts a retro pixel-art style, but Easy Trigger Games really knocked this direction out of the park. There are a few more than frustrating fights, but the game's presentation and core gameplay never held me in that frustration for too long, and I came away with a rush of dopamine everytime you take down one of the baddies. Ripping through crowds of violent aggressors with an automatic shotgun, or throwing a perfectly placed grenade gives the game a wide range, and you are constantly encouraged to pick up something new, as you can only hold one additional gun at a time. The gunplay itself is the game's strongest element, and no weapon felt useless or unable to get the job done. This means mowing down thousands of goons armed with a war room's worth of guns, swords, explosives, and artillery. ![]() In Huntdown, you play as one of three bounty hunters taking on contracts to eliminate targets and anyone else who gets in your way.
